Midweight Designer

March 2024

Job Description

Great State is a customer experience agency based in central Bristol. Within it, our Creative Team delivers digital branding, UI design and content creation, supported by strong inhouse strategy, UX and Engineering disciplines.

We are looking for a midweight digital designer to join our team and help us take the next step. We intend to go top tier in 2024, becoming more innovative and next gen - through creative technology and cutting-edge interfaces.

You’ll already have experience within an agency, and confidently know how to get things moving - originating, presenting and crafting in Figma above all, with a portfolio that reflects this.

Day to day, that means helping shape design systems, turning deeply researched wireframes into high fidelity prototypes, designing components and collaborating with our inhouse front-end developers to deliver distinctive, portfolio-worthy UI.

You’ll get to apply your design skills to clients including Honda, The Royal Navy, British Army, UWE and Bristol Airport, and get the chance to flex your skills further on social content, pitch concepts, digital out of home and more. In line with how our industry is moving, you’ll be encouraged to propose motion principles, micro-interactions, generative AI and other trends within your project work.

If you understand that design is about creating a feeling as well as serving a purpose, and passionately believe that aesthetics elevate brands and entice customers, we’d like to hear from you.

Skills

  • Able to work independently as a UI and visual designer, conceiving and delivering artwork confidently, recognising the value of peer and client feedback at every stage
  • Enjoy collaborating with our growing creative team comprising designers, art directors, copywriters and content creators as well as developers, strategists and UXers.
  • Able to work in sprints, but also in an ad-hoc project basis, depending on the nature of the project.
  • A keen eye for trends in our industry, comfortable with continuously adapting to embrace new tools and software features to keep your work at the forefront.
  • Happy to present your thinking and design work internally and to clients, bringing it to life with passion.
  • Disciplined and well organised in Figma, understanding the value of design systems, component design and variables and setting up files that others can use.
  • Excited by technology developments such as spacial interface and AI to engage consumers.
  • Eye for modern and progressive design and trends in typography
  • Restless to win awards and create design work that turns heads.
  • Accomplished Adobe CC skills
  • Detail orientated
