Great People: Introducing Eloise Scott

Eloise joined the Great State team last year and instantly won us over with her infectious energy and sense of humour.

She's a people kind of person who makes aesthetically pleasing spreadsheets. She's organised, she's diligent and she's an expert in managing creative projects.

Say hello, to Elo!

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Eloise! I’m a Delivery Executive at Great State. I work within smaller teams in the agency to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget; I ensure that everyone on the team fully understands the brief and that they’re all working to deliver something fantastic for our clients.

How did you get to be here?

My first few jobs were in retail – which taught me so much about customer service and how you can find a common thread with just about anybody! I was always interested in tech though, and my break came after a good interview at Microsoft, where I stepped into a Support Technician role. This kicked off with an intensive 6-week training course learning all there is to know about their support services.

Next up I joined my first digital agency where I had the opportunity to work on technical projects; mainly on bespoke websites using WordPress – this job became the bridge between being technical support and starting a job here at Great State.

What are you working on right now?

Currently I am managing the delivery of a really exciting project: Always On Social for the Royal Navy. The aim is to create captivating content for their social channels that will encourage people to express an interest in joining The Royal Navy or Royal Marines. We’re constantly assessing our strategy and performance to push optimisations and to adapt to the ever-changing canvas of social channels and what’s trending, whilst still making it relevant to our clients’ key principles.           

How do you know when you’ve produced something great?

This is an interesting question, because an individual's personal life experiences can change how they perceive a piece of work or product. So for me, I guess the answer is: I feel like I’ve produced something great when a diverse group of people can all relate and understand what it is you have produced, and why, and it motivates them to take action.

What excites you about your work?

I get excited by learning new things from our own work and then applying that knowledge in other areas and to other challenges. I like working as a team to both come up with ideas but also come up with solutions to hurdles we might encounter… work is certainly never boring!

What excites you in life?

Art! I did my degree in photography at Falmouth university back in 2015 and emerged three years later loving it even more than when I first started, which I’ve heard is pretty rare for a degree to do!

The skill of being able to essentially ‘translate’ a visual piece of work into something I can ‘read’ has been such a delightful tool to have on my belt. It was also drilled into us pretty early on that nothing we make is from an original thought or idea, but our interpretation of it is what can be unique. This teaching allowed me so much freedom in how I create my work, some of which I have on my website.

What is the future of tech looking like to you?

I read somewhere that a large percentage of jobs that current primary school age children will have will be in tech that don’t even exist yet! How bizarre is that? It’s not lost on me that I used to have to unplug the house phone to use the dial-up internet, whereas now I can stream 3-hour movies on my mobile in a few clicks. The future of tech is somewhere far beyond my comprehension!
